Howard Berg has developed a program that can help students learn better through showing them how to read faster, and comprehend more.

“People don’t want to read faster,” says Berg, they want to learn more.” His program allows you to speed up when you want, and slow down when you need to. It is not just reading more words, it’s comprehending what you read.

Most people read at the same level that they speak, about 230 words on average, per minute. “When we are reading we are not tapping into our brain super fast.”

Most kids hate to read because it’s too slow. This program will help them learn better, more, and faster, and not become bored. It trains the brain to visualize what you are reading. The power of vision is to take in huge chunks of data at a time, and speed reading shows people how to learn better by taking in more words at one time – training your eyes and your brain.

This interview with Patrick Dougher of The Business Spotlight, shows how Berg is able to utilize his system, that has been around since the 1990s. He starts out by having you time yourself, and then the next time you time yourself and use your hand across the page as you read. Berg says you can see nearly a 20% increase in your speed.

He says initially it may seem difficult, but the brain wires up when it does something repeatedly, and then it becomes instinctive – like typing. At first you use one or two fingers to find the keys, and with practice you don’t need to watch the keys anymore and can type without thinking.

There is a 70% drop out rate in 2-year college, a  50% drop out rate in a 4-year college, it’s taking 6 years on average to finish a 4-year degree. The challenge is getting them through college – because they can’t read, speak and write fast enough. Reading faster is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.
