Dave Swift returns to The Business Spotlight to speak with host Patrick Dougher on the importance of digital marketing, using videos and social media for your business.
Video helps you to portray an image of your brand – here is my brand, here is what I want to accomplish, directly to your audience.
Old-time marketing started with a strategic plan. It used to start with a website, and created optimized SEO, which means we knew what services we wanted to promote according to the landing pages and keywords that were supposed to engage the clients.
As an example of digital marketing, Dave used his client Dallas Laser Dentistry as a case study, which has won awards over 2011, 2012 and 2013 Consumer Awards in Dentistry. Specifically, when he launched the website several years ago he decided to go with the detail terms SEO and it was effective. From there he went to email marketing, and drift campaigning, and looked at each branch of service and what worked. They then went on to newsletters (digital because they could avoid the cost of printing).
Then YouTube came out and they used educational videos that linked back to their website. They then developed websites that were service specific, educating people in specific areas of dentistry – all linking back to three main websites.
Dallas Laser Dentistry committed to a long term marketing plan with Dave, and moved from the old mainstream marketing plan to digital, and it paid off exceptionally well for them.
The interaction has been tremendous between clients, potential clients and the staff through social media. They used Facebook advertising, and hired people to do content and knew what the target audience was looking for. It was an evolving thing.
They watched the evolving demographics of social media before they even got onto Facebook, and now the demographics are what they are looking for in cosmetic dentistry. They also worked with Google + and Google maps, by claiming your page, in order to target their geographic area and demographics – and it doesn’t cost you much at all.
What they discovered that the more they used Google and it’s affiliates, and Yahoo and their maps and services, the higher their ranking went with their website.
Another thing that worked for them was to receive reviews and feedback from clients and visitors, and having the staff follow up with them. Repurposing the content by having them link to other associated pages also was a bonus.
Blogs are to be meaningful and engaging as well. If you have something to offer, that is meaningful and helpful (not a sales pitch), that engages others definitely works. Don’t just have a blog on your site. Go to Facebook and Twitter, and pick and choose how you present it to the social media platform that makes the most sense for you.
Re-marketing is something else you need to look at. You present people with content that keeps popping up and in their face, and eventually they will take notice.
